Week Five: New Orleans

Image
I know I didn’t post last week but I was lazy at first and then life caught up with me. So you get two for the price of one! To make it not horrifyingly long Ill post mostly pictures for this week. They say a picture is worth a 1000 words so I get a pass with the pictures.  Monday : 5 hours of driving almost made me go crazy but getting to see Rachel was well worth it. For those that don’t know how we met, she literally said she wanted to be friends with me to a mutual friend and then made it happen. It cracks me up every time I think about it. Anyways we started our time together by doing a brewery bounce. It was a great time catching up because in college she was like a big sister to me.  Thankfully she’s an old soul like me so we headed to bed early so we could hike most of the day. Today I am thankful for someone that shares my love for early bed times hahaha.  Tuesday : Bright and early we started our way to Noccalula falls. We saw a sign that we thought was the begi...

Week Four: New Orleans

Image
Another week has flown by! I cannot believe how much time flies. Sometimes the hard shifts feel more like days than hours but then the days off just fly by. I don’t have a set schedule every week so my days are all mixed up. Monday- Wednesday: I decided to clump all my days of work together this week because they were all in a row, so no fun to be had after work each night or in between shifts. Well Monday was a little “exciting” because Delta started grown in the Gulf and we were preparing for storm teams to come in and stay at the hospital. Since I was travel, my manager said I could do whatever I wanted and I told him that I would be on the storm team. It would be a whole new experience for me. For the sake of the people of New Orleans I hoped that it wouldn’t hit, but for my curiosity I wished it did. Thankfully it ended going to the west of us but my heart goes out to those people because they already got hit with a hurricane earlier this year. During these three days of work I w...

Week Three: New Orleans

Image
Hello hello! I cannot believe week three is already down in the books. Sorry everyone but this week wasn’t full of adventures so there aren’t many pictures. I took my days off and sat by the pool in the sunshine and just read some books.      Monday : This week hit pretty hard because I was truly missing out at home. My grandma, Bernardette, as many of you know, is my world. We have weekly dates, just her and I, and then I see her at least 1-2 times more because of family things. Well she got COVID and it scares the crap out of me. I have seen the virus turn on a dime and just hearing how tired she was, unnerved me. Any of you that know my grandma know that she doesn’t stop, so her telling me that she couldn’t get out of bed did not sit right with me. I wish I could be there helping her but all I can do is pray.  This is what I was most afraid of when traveling but again I just have to cast all my worries and fears on the Lord.     ...

Week Two: New Orleans

While writing these entries I have a hard time not fully transitioning, so at the end of the day I am going to give you my biggest blessing or something I was truly grateful for that day. It also helps remind me to thank God for every blessing and burden because without them, I wouldn’t know His love.       Monday : It was a typical day at work but this time I was by myself! My patients, not only survived but their care was charted appropriately and timely.  One of my new coworkers was talking about traveling in January but she wanted a buddy to go with. I just looked at her and said “I will”. I may or may not have a buddy now. She even remarked how God must have just put me in front of her to get her to go. I feel the same way. Sometimes God speaks in whispers and other times He shouts it and shoves it in your face. I’m a person that needs a 2x4 over the head to finally listen.  Today I am grateful that God put this nurse in my path bec...

Week One: New Orleans!

Image
As you already know Sally ended up hitting the coast of Alabama so I dodged my first hurricane. My heart goes out to a state that I called home for four years and to those affected by the storm. People I know and love were affected so I would please ask you to send up a quick prayer for them.         I am titling this Week One because technically it’s my first week on the job so you (and I) can keep up with how much longer I will be down here for. My contract is 8 weeks long but I am hopeful to extend for an extra two. I guess it’s just in God’s hands now.  I also found that I hate writing in the past tense and I find myself falling into the past participle so I may change it up to the present. It will be more like a diary entry at the end of the day than a culmination at the end of the week.       Monday night: Yes, you heard all about the day but after I posted it I got a knock on the door from one of the daughters ...

Pre First Assignment!

I’ve decided to write this blog to bring along family and friends on my adventures. This is my first time blogging outside of class so it may be a total bust. I’ll give it my best shot but I won’t promise you perfection. Mondays will hopefully be my publishing day but life can get in the way. If it does, I will post changes on Facebook.        Monday Taco Nights are the highlight of my week, where I can catch up with some of my family. If I can’t facetime in, this give me a way to share all my stories with not only them but anyone else bored enough to read about my life. I promise not to go through a play by play because sometimes the hum drum of everyday life or even my shifts can be quite boring. I will try to do only the highlights but like my mom’s side of the family, I love chatting people’s ears off. I don’t fully know how I want to organize so please bear with me for a little bit. Here goes nothing!        Wednesday: I l...
